Chapeltown Silver Prize Band are thrilled to announce the signing of Becky Marsh onto our flugelhorn seat!
Becky, who is from Rainford in the North West, started playing the cornet aged 11 at school. From there she joined the local youth band and soon after began playing in competitive bands, where she enjoyed contest successes with bands including Rainford Band, alongside tutelage of Paul Duffy.
Moving to Sheffield in 2018 to begin her medical degree, saw Becky join Unite the Union Brass Band on solo cornet and the University of Sheffield Brass Band on flugelhorn. She played with Unite until 2021 when she stepped back to focus on her studies, but she continued playing flugel with USBB and enjoyed regularly featuring as a soloist with the band, as well as depping for various bands across the region.
Now in her final year as a student Doctor, Becky said she is “delighted to be joining Chapeltown on flugel. I’m very grateful to Colum and the committee for this fantastic opportunity and to the band for making me so welcome! I’m really looking forward to continuing to get to know the band and getting stuck in to rehearsals for upcoming engagements.”
On her signing, MD Colum O’Shea remarked, “Becky has come into the bandroom and shown her musical experience already, she’s slotted into the Horn section and the band well on a personal basis, and we’re really pleased to be moving forwards with her.”
Welcome Becky! 👋
